Knowledge management across multi-tier enterprises: the promise of intelligent software in the auto industry

Article Abstract:

There is a need for a unified information strategy that exploits the universal information environment of Extranets, Intranets and the Internet to permit human and software-based connectivity across the complex organizational and geographic structures of multi-tier companies. Research in this area has focused on the convergence of current industry restructuring and developments in intelligent information tools. It can be seen that the emerging real-time universal information environment with intelligent software tools can play a role in fulfilling the potential of the virtually integrated company.

Russian and American small business: Motivations and obstacles

Article Abstract:

A survey of small business owners in Russia and the US between 1994 and 1997 aimed to compare motivations and obstacles experienced in the two countries. Russian small business owners were found to be younger than their US counterparts. Lower levels of domestic sales were experienced by Russian small business, due to the short history of entrepreneurship and the problems of the transitional economy. More commonality was found in human and social entrepreneurial motivations between Russia and the US.
