Landmark ruling offers working women some muscle

Article Abstract:

Japan's working women scored a major victory recently when a Tokyo district court ordered Shiba Credit to pay around $883,000 in back wages to more than a dozen female employees who were denied promotions because of their gender. The court also ordered the credit company to give the plaintiffs a promotion immediately. The ruling is expected to compel Japanese employers to review their promotional policies to reduce their legal risks.
