Lead time selection and the behaviour of work flow in job shops

Article Abstract:

An analysis of the relationship between lead time selection and work flow in job shops reveals that a shop load balance index is strongly related to the lead times required to maintain a desired level of delivery performance. The study also investigates the relationship between internal performance control measures and external measures and finds that good performance based on internal measures is consistent good performance based on external measures.

Cyclic and non-cyclic scheduling of 12 h shift nurses by network programming

Article Abstract:

A mathematical model incorporating work-stretch and 'off-stretch' patterns for the nurse scheduling problem is presented. The model has been found to be effective in generating optimal or near optimal solutions while allowing for flexibility not found in other programs. The model also incorporates cyclic and non-cyclic scheduling problems with only minor modifications in the program.
