Japanese firms are using various methods to make their profits at least match their expenditures. The break-even point for industries such as electronics, has been over 90%. Heavy capital investing has been sharply cut, especially in the automobile industry. With profits down, that industry has made cuts of 12.5%.

Japanese firms will restructure because their profits are dropping and acquisitions in the US have proved difficult investments. Matsushita Electric Industrial Company Ltd is an example of what is wrong at big corporations with multinational, diverse interests.
