Top freight forwarders & customs brokers

Article Abstract:

Freight forwarders and customs brokers are making use of total logistics and supply chain management to stay competitive. Acquisitions and mergers are seen more often as forwarders and brokers try to create a one-stop shopping destination. Investments in more advanced information systems are also part of the companies' never-ending quest for enhanced customer service.

What's your IQ(R)?

Article Abstract:

Just-in-time inventory management is apparently ineffective for many businesses desiring to reduce excess inventories. Inventory Quality Ratio (IQR) is a tool which can help companies manage their supply chain systems more efficiently. It was developed by a group of materials managers from 35 companies and has successfully been used at these firms to cut inventories by $500 million in a two-year span. The method is essentially the ratio of active inventory dollars to total inventory dollars. Thus, it measures inventory performance in terms of how much money, rather than product, is tied up in inventory.

Legal issues for shippers: what you don't know can hurt you

Article Abstract:

The Export Administration Bureau (BXA) has provided a number of guidelines to help US shippers enhance their oversight of imports or exports in terms of laws and regulations. For instance, shippers ought to determine whether or not their exports require an export license and should be well versed with BXA Export Administration regulations. They should also be alert for warning signs (red flags) of potentially anomalous orders, such as when the customer or its address are similar to one of the parties found in the BXA list of denied persons, or if the product's capabilities do not fit the buyer's line of business.
