Legal limbo: local consumer-protection laws could nip European e-commerce in the bud

Article Abstract:

Electronic commerce in Europe may be doomed if the vast variety of European consumer protection laws remain. Companies such as Land's End Germany GmbH have run afoul of consumer protection laws, and the legal uncertainties for further e-commerce development are risks that many companies may choose to decline. One of the key issues that will affect how e-commerce develops in Europe will be how the jurisdiction for cross-border contracts is handled.
