Israel's once-in-a-millennium tourism opportunity

Article Abstract:

The government of Israel has embarked on a C$48-million worldwide marketing campaign to set up Jerusalem as the destination of choice for celebrating the third millennium. A hefty 35-40% of the budget has been allotted by the Israel Government Tourist Offices to North America and the amount raised will be used mainly for public relations, advertising and support for travel agents and tour operators. Israel is expecting 3.5 million-plus tourists for the millennium celebrations.

A growing number of law firms in Quebec are realizing that a well-targeted marketing strategy can help attract new clients and differentiate themselves from competitors. Langlois Gaudreau found out that advertising in magazines in highly targeted fields is more effective and cheaper than just advertising in as many magazines as possible. Another effective marketing strategy, which Oglivy Renault has adopted, includes promoting the firm's expertise in a particular field of law.

Food retailers in Quebec, Canada, are relying on an expanded menu of their own brands to attract more customers. Sales of private labels among Quebec's grocery stores are increasing as the big three players in the market hopes to change the perception of consumers on private labels as low-quality products. The Quebec grocery business is dominated by Provigo Corp, Metro-Richelieu of Montreal, Canada, and IGA, a subsidiary of The Oshawa Group of Toronto, Canada.
