Cuban music has become a political issue in Miami, with some Cuban Americans opposing a concert by a Cuban band, Los Van Van. Critics argue that the Cuban Americans who oppose the band playing should have more respect for free speech, since it is lack of free speech in Cuba that they claim to oppose. Corruption scandals have damaged the casue of some Cuban Americans, and Miami is becoming more moderate, with stronger links developing with Latin American countries other than Cuba. The critics of the band also appear not to know much about the lyrics of the songs they sing, which could be taken to be critical of the Cuban government.
