Sigurd Teige, chairman of the Norwegian Fishing Vessel Owners' Association believes that the fishing industry in Norway needs to address various issues like illegal fishing, low prices and catch shares. The effects of black market for mackerel on the fishing industry are discussed. His opinion on the agreement on Atlanto-Scandian herring is also discussed.

Canada acts to protect east coast grounds: cod fishery shut down!

In view of depleting cod reserves, the Canadian government has opted to close down most of Canada's cod grounds. Canadian Fisheries Minister, Robert Thibault, announced the decision along with other relief measures for fishermen.
