Anthony Williams is standing as candidate for the Democratic party in elections in Washington DC to replace Marion Barry as mayor. Williams is likely to be elected since there is strong support for the Democratic party in the District of Columbia. Williams faces a difficult task in a city where the treasury has become bankrupt, school buildings are crumbling, and TB, infant mortality and new Aids cases are at the highest levels of the US. Williams has already reduced the budget in his role as chief financial officer.
