Life after the Plan of Work

Article Abstract:

The Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) Strategic Study opens a debate on the future of architectural practice. The report includes a number of essays on market trends, environmental changes and their implications for the future of architecture and questions how architects can avoid the trend to isolation from clients and reduced fees and control. Other papers suggest architects must promote their design skills and make use of information technology to deal with building economics. The report also contains 11 issue papers dealing with research data.

He has worked in the construction materials industry and attributes much litigation to architects ignorance of the properties of the materials they specify and the behaviour of buildings over time.
