Local approach may hold the key to profit; products aimed primarily at domestic investors outperform many designed for foreigners

Article Abstract:

Taiwan's local mutual funds provide a better alternative for investors wanting to invest in managed funds that are aimed at foreigners. Statistics show that a group of local funds aimed at domestic investors are outperforming those that are targeting foreigners. The best example is Core Pacific High-Tech Fund whose return of 8.6% topped a 0.7% increase in Taiwan's main stock index. By contrast, funds targeted at foreigners have continued to exhibit lackluster returns.

Taipei stocks show promise

MasterLink Securities Investment & Trust Co's net asset value rose in the first half of 1998, catapulting it to No 1 among locally managed Taiwanese stock mutual funds.
