Long march

Article Abstract:

China is seeking to join the World Trade Organization (WTO) and has been blamed by western countries for being reluctance to bring down trade barriers. China has seen a drop in foreign investment and may be seeking to conclude negotiations to offset this, though liberalization could be a problem with rising unemployment in China, and a weakening state sector. China has already cut tariffs to 17% from 43% on average, and plans a further fall to 10%. There are some areas yet to be negotiated such as the warehousing of stocks in China.
