Long-range ammunition is aimed at the US Navy's Advanced Gun System

Article Abstract:

United Defense LP is in the process of studying a number of concepts for the development of a rocket-assisted ammunition for the 100-nautical-mile- range 155mm Advanced Gun System (AGS) of the US Navy. The AGS will be the main gun system on the navy's next-generation destroyer, the DD 21. Similar studies, all under concept definition subcontracts, is being conducted by such companies as Lockheed Martin, SAIC and Raytheon Systems Co.

Advanced gun system for DD 21 moves ahead

Article Abstract:

United Defense LP has finished its design package for the 155-mm Advanced Gun System that will be installed in the US Navy's new 32 DD 21 land- attack destroyers, the first of which is due for delivery in 2010. The 62- caliber AGS can fire up to 12 rounds per minute at elevations of up to 70 degrees and a muzzle energy of 30-35 MJ. The company expects to start low- rate initial production in early 2005.

Defeating the maritime mugger

Article Abstract:

The Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) has issued a request for information in Aug 1998 for a closed-in gun system to counter the threats of small boats and slow-low flying aircraft. NAVSEA received 21 responses of which 13 related to complete weapons, six to subsystems and one to services. Among the proposals were the GDLS Mk46, British Aerospace/Oerlikon Contraves Millenium 35/1000, Mauser MN 27 GS, General Dynamics/Rafael Typhoon and Kollmorgen Mk98.
