US automakers are now eagerly involved in joint research and development ventures, particularly since Japan has 25% percent of the US automobile market. Once unable to collaborate because of antitrust regulations,which have now expired, carmakers are looking together innovations in cars.

Toyota hops aboard: pickup trucks in America

Article Abstract:

Toyota will introduce its T-100 full-size pickup in the American market by Nov 1992. Toyota's entry into the large truck market is due in part to the high profit margins. Protected by the 25% tariff on trucks, US auto makers have charged as much as a 35% markup for large pickups.

DAF's demise: European trucks

Article Abstract:

The European truck industry has been devastated by plummeting sales. The latest victim is Holland's DAF Trucks, which had to file for bankruptcy protection when it could not work out a deal with its bankers to restructure its $975 million debt.
