Lowrie is leaving posts at BP Amoco in unexpected move

Article Abstract:

The former president of Amoco Corp., William G. Lowrie, unexpectedly announced his resignation from the board of directors of BP Amoco PLC. Mr. Lowrie will also resign from his post as BP Amoco's deputy chief executive officer and president of refining, marketing, and chemicals. Mr. Lowrie's resignation will go into effect on April 1, 1999. Deputy CEO Rodney Chase will take over Mr. Lowrie's management duties. Mr. Lowrie could not be reached to comment on his resignation.

Virgin puts biofuels on maiden voyage

Article Abstract:

Virgin Atlantic Airways Ltd. flew a maiden voyage from London to Amsterdam using a Boeing 747 with one engine burning an 80%-20% mixture of jet fuel and plant oils, respectively. The plant-oil fuel consisted of oils derived from Brazilian babassu nuts and coconuts.

High costs slow quest for ultraclean diesel

The high costs of building gas- to- liquid plants is causing some fuel companies to reconsider their development of ultraclean diesel fuel as an alternative to crude petroleum. The process turns natural gas into a clear, environmentally friendly liquid.
