MACLELLAN TO MAKE INDIA BASE FOR ASIA OPERATIONS

Article Abstract:

MacLellan India plans to make India the base for its Asia operations for Industrial Facilities Management (IFM) services. It plans to retain India both as an operating base and skill base to develop its Asian business. It says that the availability of qualified technical manpower in India will enable it to deploy personnel to other countries in the region. The company provides IFM services worldwide to companies in diverse fields including those operating mines, retail marts, refineries, manufacturing and telecommunications. The company has won a 5-year contract to deliver IFM services at the Mahindra Ford car plant at Maraimalainagar, near Chennai. (khr)

MCDONALD'S TO EXPAND INDIAN OPERATIONS

Article Abstract:

The US fast-food restaurant McDonald's, in the past two years, has opened 12 outlets in India. The company now plans to open three more before the end 1998, of which one will be in South India. The company says plans are afoot to develop and find right solutions to cater to the Indian market. McDonald's has a distinct vegetarian menu only in India with a separate kitchen to maintain sensibilities. The Maharajah Mac is made of lamb not beef, it says. The company finds the Indian business scene challenging as electricity, gas and filtered fresh water which are taken for granted in the US, have to be procured at a price here. (nr)
