MAKINO SETS UP UNIT IN B'LORE, PLANS ANOTHER

Article Abstract:

The Makino Group, a machine tool major of Japan, has set up a $4 million facility at Bangalore and plans to set up another technical unit in the city with an additional investment of $6-8 million in the next two years. The second centre will provide training, demonstration, design and prototype support to clients. The company has been allotted 15 acres of land for the second unit adjacent to the International Tech Park, where the first facility is housed. The company says that it may not get into product manufacturing in India, but will start with application engineering. (khr)

BLUE STAR BAGS HITACHI'S $3-M SERVICE MEDICAL-IMAGING DEAL

Article Abstract:

Blue Star Limited (BSL) makes air-conditioners (ACs) and develops software. It has won a $3 million medical- imaging servicing contract from Hitachi Corporation of Japan. BSL is involved in client network application development and re- engineering and ERP consultancy. It is developing software for diagnostic products like ultrasound scanners and MR scanners. It recorded a 25 percent growth in the domestic AC market during the first quarter of 1998-99. Its IT (information technology) division made a turnover of Rs27 crore in 1997-98. (gs)

CEEVY MINI HYDEL MULLS 6.5-MW PLANT

Article Abstract:

Ceevy Mini Hydel Power Pvt Ltd plans to set up a 6.5 mw mini hydro electric power generation unit at Yavakkapady village in Kodagu district of Karnataka. The company plans to set up a generating capacity of 3 mw in the first phase at an estimated cost of Rs12 crore and add another 3 mw in the second phase. It has already commenced infrastructure work like houses and approach road and expects to begin power generation in two years. (khr)
