MAN weighs big purchase, says sales fell

MAN AG, an engineering group based in Germany, is considering a DM500 million to DM1 billion purchase of an unspecified company, according to the company's chairman, Rudolf Rupprecht. He added that the company intends to continue its policy of purchases, stressing that the company being targeted would become a part of its realignment to concentrate on core business. MAN, which is a commecial-vehicle, machinery-making, plant-engineering and trading conglomerate, sells products that include commercial trucks, buses and printing presses.

Audi to pay $190.9 million for Cosworth of the U.K

Audi AG of Germany will acquire Cosworth of the UK for 117 million pounds sterling ($190.9 million). The purchase is seen as an important move for Audi's parent, Volkswagen AG of Germany, as it will need the engines produced by the British firm for its newly acquired subsidiary, Rolls-Royce Motor Cars PLC. Rolls-Royce's current engine supplier, Bayerische Motoren Werke AG, has served notice that it will discontinue supplying engines to the firm after its supply contract's expiration on Jul. 9, 1998.
