MCI is being investigated for allegedly rerouting long distance telephone calls in Canada and in the US. The company is being suspected by US federal prosecutors of avoiding paying access charges to local phone companies.

In November 2003, U.S. cellular phone customers will be able to change their phone companies and keep their current phone numbers. However, this could have a negative impact on the cellphone industry.
