MOROCCO: HOME APPLIANCE MARKET DEVELOPING

Article Abstract:

The home appliance market in Morocco is still relatively new, but although still restricted, the market is developing due to a general increase in quality of life, mentality and the boom in credit facilities. The market also has two characteristics, that there is growing pressure between both imports and local production, and Moroccan and international brands. Moroccan purchasing power is still weak, but this development in consumer credit will allow a growing middle class easier access to home appliance products. Furthermore an agreement, between Morocco and the European Union, will firstly help fight against smuggling and fraud, and open up the market. Secondly, local demand will grow into production of safer and more reliable products. Concerning 5mn underequipped households, the household appliance market is worth TD 1.5bn.
