MTV networks Asia makes a bet on licensing popularity of a logo

Article Abstract:

MTV Networks Asia has ventured into the retail licensing business by introducing a line of products which includes backpacks, notebooks, clothing and duffel bags. The items have been licensed to 25 retailers in Singapore and the Philippines while launches in Malaysia and Taiwan are still being planned. The licensing ventures are part of the ambitious marketing push of MTV Networks in Asia. Its goods are being sold in Takashimaya department store and Seiyu Bugis Junction in Singapore and in ShoeMart malls and Robinson department stores in Manila, Philippines.

Wal-Mart expands in Asia, but cautiously this time

Wal-Mart Stores Inc. is carefully planning its entry into the Chinese and Indonesian retail markets after a disastrous debut in Hong Kong in 1994. The world's largest retail chain is opening stores one at a time to make sure that its initial stores are stable and earning well. It is also focusing on knowing the preferences of its customers to ensure that the products inside its stores suit their habits and needs.

Wal-Mart, CP Group terminate venture to develop retailing business in China

Article Abstract:

Wal-Mart Stores Inc. and Charoen Pokphand Group's C.P. Pokphand Co. Ltd. have terminated their 18-month-old joint venture to construct several retail outlets in China and Hong Kong. Each company will try to establish their own retail stores in the two areas. Meanwhile, analysts noted that the dissolution of the joint venture could adversely affect Wal-Mart's expansion in the two areas.
