Party faithful

Article Abstract:

India's Congress Party hopes that it will be able to use Sonia Gandhi, widow of Rajiv Gandhi, to revive its fortunes. She has no political experience at all, and has appeared reluctant to hold office so far. However, she is highly respected as a member of India's first family, and seems to have already played a role in reducing demoralization among members of the Congress Party. The Bharatiya Janata Party is trying to damage her image by emphasizing that she is a foreigner.
