Making the merger come true

Article Abstract:

Sandoz Pharma vice president for strategic planning, business development and strategic licensing Cynthia Hogan was appointed to lead the Integration Office and Strategic Planning of the Novartis Group in Basle, Switzerland. The Novartis Group is the result of the merger of industrial giants Ciba and Sandoz. Hogan will be in charge of supervising the unification of the two firms which has combined annual sales of Sfr.36,000 million and 700 task forces. She will also be responsible for ensuring that the new firm would be able top save Sfr.2,000 million from synergies.

MasterCard commits $100m to world soccer

Article Abstract:

MasterCard International of the U.S. is to spend at least $100 million sponsoring several world major soccer torunaments between 1995 and 1998, including the World Cup to be held in France in 1998. Lucerne-based marketing agency ISL negotiated the deal with FIFA, soccer's governing body. The agreement will give MasterCard exposure at 289 games during eight major events, with a TV audience expected to total 47.1 billion.

Glaxo commits to global OTC strategy with Wellcome bid

Article Abstract:

Glaxo, a pharmaceutical company, has bid for Wellcome of the UK, a drug company. The merged companies would become the larges pharmaceutical company in the world. Wellcome's OTC medicines are marketing through Warner Wellcome Consumer Healthcare, which also markets Glaxo's OTC products. The two companies will be able to expand their OTC strategies with the alliance.
