Malaysia group wins bid to buy Manila Hotel

Article Abstract:

Renong Overseas Corp. won 51% of the Manila Hotel stake. The company commissioned ITT Sheraton Corp. to operate the hotel under an agreement that could last 25 years. The Philippine government will retain a 20% stake through the state pension fund, Government Service Insurance System. The remaining shares will be sold to government employees and the public through an initial offering in 1996. Improvements on the hotel will begin by Sep. 1996, in time for the the summit meeting in the Philippines of the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation forum.

Regent plans to expand; luxury hotel group will franchise its name

Article Abstract:

Regent International Hotels Ltd. is planning to franchise its name to increase the number of its hotels. Instead of signing up on full-scale management contracts, the company will enter into licensing deals with owners who want to manage the properties themselves. From nine international hotels, the luxury hotel group is aiming to expand to 18 properties by the year 2000 and to 36 properties by 2003.

Hotel chains add services to woo women travelers

Article Abstract:

A growing number of hotels are offering women-oriented services in an effort to attract more female travelers. Some hotels, such as the Radisson Plaza Suite Hotel in Indonesia and the Novotel Bangkok in Thailand provide female guests with rooms that are decorated and equipped for their needs and tastes. Other hotels reserve one wing or a whole floor for the exclusive use of women travelers.
