Malaysian stocks are expected to advance; analysts predict a short-term boost from influx of liquidity

Article Abstract:

The performance of Malaysia's stock market in the first three months of 1999 rests on possible changes in Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad's capital-control policy. These changes currently remain uncertain although speculations include measures to encourage foreign investment and relaxation of the one-year holding period for securities. Nonetheless, analysts expect the composite stock index to exceed 600 at the end of Mar 1999.
