Managing environmental pressure

Article Abstract:

Environmental consultants had gained business because acquirers are more careful not to purchase liabilities that may impact their effort to exit the deal. Environmental due diligence has become routine before a deal. Moreover, the definition of environment is broadening to include occupational health and safety, process safety, social issues, product liability among other things. The relationship between corporate clients and their environmental consultants is widening to involve early stages of the deal and an approach tailored to each deal.

Can you afford to ignore environmental liabilities?

Article Abstract:

Environmental issues have become increasingly important in terms of risk management or evaluation in merger and acquisitions deals because failure to perform environmental due diligence (EDD) can result in higher all-around costs. Environmental due diligence can be a deal-breaker because the identification of liabilities can lead to the question of responsibility for the potential financial burden. This may stall or break the deal. The handling of EDD is discussed.
