Manufacturing planning and control: the evolution of MRP and JIT integration

Article Abstract:

Material Requirements Planning (MRP) and Just-in-time (JIT) system are designed for planning and controlling the vital qualities of material flow - the quantity of what materials flow and when. MRP and JIT are effective management mediums that can identify the efficiency or breakdown of the whole manufacturing system. However, an entire conversion of the traditional manufacturing system to a complete JIT production system is not well known and may not be successful. Instead, a partial application of JIT principle and JIT production system may possibly be more reasonable, cost-effective and successful.

Quantity discount schemes of non-time-phased demand, all-units discounts, non-time-phased demand, incremental discounts and time-phased demand, all-units discounts are important factors in lot size determination. Both buyers' and suppliers' perspectives were considered.

Evaluating jointly constrained order quantity complexities for incremental discounts

Article Abstract:

The purchasing decisions facing a buying firm, which receives incrementally discounted price schedules for a group of items in the presence of constraints such as budgets and space limitations are outlined. Simultaneous order quantities for multiple items can be calculated efficiently using a combination of Lagrangean relaxation and partial enumeration.
