Manufacturers to aim for quality

Article Abstract:

The China External Trade Development Council (CETRA) has recently been focusing on special programs like Image Week, its Trade Opportunities Project (TOP) and Mini-Europe for Taiwanese trade promotion. Image Week includes a product quality competition, product exhibitions, seminars and television programs. TOP aims to help Taiwan companies create alliances or cooperation with companies in the US and Europe. Mini-Europe involves getting foreign companies to increase sub-contract manufacturing in Taiwan. Taiwan is also developing its own products to gain higher export prices.

Taiwan comes of age

Article Abstract:

Taiwan is finally coming of age as it gains economic growth and international recognition after years of struggle. Concrete evidence of this includes its foreign trade, GNP and per capita income for 1992 reaching all time highs, its foreign exchange reserves being the largest holding in the world, its Six-Year National Development Plan making it the most active and reliable construction, engineering and equipment supplies market and progress in its admission to GATT.

Taiwan expands regional investment

Article Abstract:

Taiwan has become one of the largest sources of investment capital in Asia and this has stimulated increased foreign trade. Its Ministry of Economic Affairs also seeks to establish the country as a regional operations center for multinational corporations. Its foreign exchange reserves, high per capita income, qualified workers and professionals and access to Southeast Asia and mainland China make it an attractive base for multinationals.
