Market shouldn't fault IMF over Thailand

Article Abstract:

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) should not be blamed for failing to warn markets about the Thai currency crisis that eventually engulfed the region. The IMF does not have the responsibility and legal latitude to warn markets about possible economic debacles. Historically, the institution has released economic and financial information about a member country with the permission of that member country. If the IMF is to be faulted, it is because it responded slowly in calling for structural changes in the region that would have avoide the crisis.

Kinetochores distinguish GTP from GDP forms of the microtubule lattice

Article Abstract:

Researchers have used reconstituted kinetochores from the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae to investigate whether kinetochores distinguish the different structure states of a GTP- as opposed to a GDP-microtubule lattice. The results indicate that proteins which recognize the GTP form of microtubules are a powerful mechanism to couple movement and polymerization. These findings have implications for the control of microtubule behaviour.
