Marketers caught up by Beetle mania

Article Abstract:

Volkswagen's New Bettle is being used by many Canadian marketers to draw attention to their own promotions and contests. No marketing category is immune to the Bettle-mania with a Canadian radio station, a condominium developer and car dealerships and even Pepsi- Cola Canada, using the popular car as promotional tool. In Canada, a slew of Canadian marketers have requested Volkswagen for a New Bettle for their contest. However, the company has donated only one car that went to Canadian National Exhibition of Toronto, Canada. The bettle will be used as the price for its Great CNE Duck race.

Tip of the hat to the Roots boys

Article Abstract:

Roots' marketing initiatives in 1998 helped propelled the Toronto, Ontario-based clothing store chain to its current international level. By being one of the sponsors of the Canadian 1998 Winter Olympics team, the company got to promote its clothes globally. Also during 1998, Roots introduced a new line of jeans, opened its largest store in Toronto and entered into a three-year licensing and retrail agreement with NHL Enterprises.

Racing for the big boys

Article Abstract:

The Canadian Association for Stock Car Auto Racing (CASCAR) has become a viable marketing proposition, said Dave Lloyd, CASCAR's marketing and sales director. CASCAR aims to emulate the US-based NASCAR in attracting sponsors beyond the automotive industry. Efforts to attract major advertisers, however, are being stymided by the less than stellar numbers of viewers and listeners to the CASCAR races.
