Intelligent airport design

Article Abstract:

The completion of the second terminal at Helsinki-Vantaa International Airport raised the total capacity at the airport to 12 million passengers. The terminal is use by Finnair for international flights and has a baggage conveyor system that can handle 2,000 bags per hour, as well as fully- integrated baggage screening. It has 25 gates and 14 bridges, with six gates with bridges built on the new middle building. Passengers also have access to airside shops and commercial services in the main shopping street.

Article Abstract:

Construction of the new Athens International Airport Eleftherios Venizelos was completed in Oct 2000, and a five-month trial period at the airport has started. The Eleftherios Venizelos is a build-own-operate-transfer project of a German consortium led by Hochtief, ABB and Krantz-TKT, built at a fixed cost of 1.67 billion euros. It would have an initial capacity of 16 million passengers annually but can be increased to 25 million by expanding central handling facilities.
