Research indicates that pharmaceutical companies could boost their profits by as much as 75% by improving their marketing and supply-chain management. Price-competition is likely to force drug companies to focus less on developing breakthrough drugs and more on business basics.

Japan's sickly drug firms

Japan's health ministry is increasing its efforts to reduce drug prices and prevent the over-prescription of drugs in an effort to makes its floundering pharmaceutical industry more competitive. The reforms are expected to reduce the pharmaceuticals market by 25%.
