Mercury Asset Management

Article Abstract:

Mercury Asset Management's private equity division has invested a total of 123 million pounds sterling in unquoted companies over the last 18 months. More than 40 investments have been realised over the period, producing in excess of 450 million pounds cash, on an initial investment of 88 million pounds. The division targets two areas of investment: large buy-outs/buy-ins of 5 million pounds sterling upwards; and small companies requiring development capital.

Turning the pages of a deal

Article Abstract:

Publishing company, Hurst Publishing was bought by BC Partners in July 1998 for 260 million pounds sterling. Hurst is responsible for the 'Auto Trader' magazine, which is now available in 13 regional issues. Other Hurst titles include 'Top Marques' and 'Diamond FreeAds'. Debt was arranged by Deutsche Bank London and included a 7-year amortising term loan, B note, and revolving credit facility.

Societe General targets senior debt transactions from 5 million pounds sterling upwards. In 1995, the company underwrote debt facilities of 600 million pounds for the acquisition of Gardner Merchant by Sodexho. The acquisition finance team is represented Europe-wide, with units in Frankfurt, Madrid, Milan, Paris, and London. An overview of recent personnel changes are included.
