Merrill closes defense in case in U.K. on sex discrimination

Article Abstract:

Stephanie Villalba, a former senior executive at Merrill Lynch and Company's European division, has sued the investment bank for $13 million in a sex-discrimination case being heard before the United Kingdom Employment Tribunal. The case is being watched globally for the ramifications its outcome may have on executive salaries. In his closing argument, Merrill Lynch's lawyer defended the fact that the international bank's payment to executives varies widely according to country.
