Message in a bottleneck

Article Abstract:

Supreme Court Chief Justice, Bagir Manan along with the Institute of Independent Judiciary (III) have taken the lead in pushing for judicial reforms in Indonesia after government sponsored reform packages ground to a halt. The Chief Justice is making an effort to bring about radical changes in the archaic legal system, but there are many obstacles in the path with the government itself being one of the biggest road-blocks, however, the legal luminary is not demotivated and promises to ensure changes.

Bottleneck at Batam

Article Abstract:

Indonesian industry leaders and analysts are unhappy about the declaration of Haryanto Dhanutirto, Transport Minister, that cargo flights will be obliged to land at Hang Nadim Airport, Batam, rather than at Jakarta, as they believe this will waste time and increase costs, affecting competitiveness. B.J. Habibie, Indonesian Research and Technology Minister, head of the Batam Authority, is thought to be keen to turn Batam into a strong manufacturing base.
