Article Abstract:

The proportional area method has traditionally used for the purpose of showing compliance with Part L of the UK government's Building Regulations. However, the department of the environment has now revised its views, and believes that a procedure which takes account of the thermal bridging caused by the various metal connecting paths between inner liner and outer sheet should be used to determine the thickness of insulation necessary to meet specific thermal transmittance values for some types of insulated double-skin metal roof and wall systems.
