Technical support

Article Abstract:

Shaw Commercial Carpets has developed a customer support program that aims to facilitate the procurement of technical information between designer and carpet manufacturer. Studio one2one features an extensive database which contains data on environmental, maintenance and durability issues and has assigned design support representatives to entertain designers' inquiries. The program helps designers become more creative because they can spend more time on designing than on acquiring technical information. Studio one2one may present the answer to designers' time management difficulties.

Monastic error

Article Abstract:

Henry Vlll carried out the dissolution of the monasteries in 1539, and this may have had little effect, since tenants simply changed their landlord, and pensions were given to most people leaving monasteries. The reason for the dissolution was more to do with finance than with religion, and the event reflected a shift in power away from the church. Henry later broke with Roman Catholicism, when he wished to remarry, but he was not an especially strong supporter of Protestant views.

Richard Misrach

Article Abstract:

Photographer Richard Misrach travels around the deserts of the Southwest US and takes long-exposure photographs of celestial bodies in motion. The lens must be fully open and exposures can last as much as seven hours. The time that he must spend in the desert at night results in much isolation and much worrying about his safety. The long exposures result in streaks and arcs of light as the sky changes. The use of color film reveals the complexity of the light emitted by stars.
