More controllers needed

Article Abstract:

UK's National Air Traffic Service (NATS) intends to train 180 air traffic controllers annually to meet the rising growth in air travel. The new traffic controllers will start work by 2003, after three years' training. The NATS will also re-sector London's upper airspace, which has experienced increased capacity and overflights by up to 20%. The agency will also introduce a European-wide initiative to reduce vertical separation of aircraft above 29,000 ft.
