More quality, less quantity

Article Abstract:

The number of television channels broadcasting in China is 2,700 nearly double that of the United States. But the 40-year-old broadcast medium is fraught with problems troubling the government. Many of the stations are unlicensed and operated by unscrupulous merchants. Programming can include 18 minutes of advertising with as many as 40 spots aired during an hour, the highest in advertising/programming ratio in the world. Approximately 61% of consumers said advertising helped them choose a purchase.

The great outdoors

Article Abstract:

Advertisers doing business in China are looking to make a quick return rather than invest in a long-term committment and are buying up outdoor advertising space anywhere it is for sale. The largest advertisers include tobacco manufacturers, alcoholic drink produces, soda vendors and electronic goods manufacturers. Contracts vary within each district or street. The people's premier

Article Abstract:

The recently appointed premier of China, Zhu Rongji, has won the respect of the international business community and the Chinese public despite his legendary fierce temper and being dubbed as China's Gorbachev. He was a communist sympathizer in college and a year later, in 1949 officially joined the communist party. He will continue to slow down the overheated economy and revamp the state-owned sector.
