Morocco is starting the privatisation of its utilities with the aim of transferring half its electricity generating industry to the private sector by the middle of 1995. The three pre-qualifying groups are Endesa of Spain, Electricite de France, National Power of the UK, CNS and ABB, and GE Capital, Cogen and AES, and the winning group will have a 30 year concession to operate existing coal fired and new gas fired units. The country has also begun the sale of 14% of Banque Marocaine du Commerce Exteriur.
