Wrong turn: Bangkok car owners put their foot down

Article Abstract:

Car drivers in Bangkok have vigorously protested a new law restricting window tinting, saying it is costly and infringes on their freedoms. The law went into effect in a milder form on Mar 1. Police say lighter tints will reduce crime and improve safety, but protestors say it will increase crime. The tinting is needed to keep out the fierce sunlight, and it offers some modesty to those who have outfitted their cars with portable toilets.
