Mr. Yu's succession dilemma

Article Abstract:

The challenges in succession planning faced by small family-owned businesses are discussed using a fictional character named Jin Yu. Statistics show that only three out of 10 family-owned companies succeed during the second generation and only 16% survive in the third one. Recommendations for successful transition of business management from one generation to another are provided.

Sung Hyuk Lee began a financial analysis magazine called "Equitable" that describes how Korean businesses conduct business. The magazine has been so well respected that it is now being used regularly in court cases involving questionable activities by Korean businesses. Currently, however, the publication has only 7,000 subscribers.
