Mrs. Woolf saw it coming-now 'forcible preservation' is here

Article Abstract:

The issue of the conservation of historic buildings and ancient monuments is presented. 'Forcible preservation' the sort of expressive epithet is a perfect descriptor of the deep waters that the new-style 'non-confrontational' English Heritage is trying to get itself into. This has emerged as heritage business involves spending a lot of money to prop up basket-case buildings and make them accessible to the blue rinse exit-through-gift-shop crowd

Heritage conservation should be about more than just being old

Article Abstract:

Every one of Britain's most precious pieces of historical architecture in the 500 year class have survived for five centuries without the aid of the English heritage and its local authority conservation officers. Museums and other heritage buildings are ways that connects one's past with the present, and so should be conserved.

Suffocating conservation system leaves us grasping at longevity

Article Abstract:

A historian of present would feel that there could be better objects of value to look at rather than buildings. One of the main reasons to preserve historical and most precious pieces of buildings is to make people know that such pieces survived for centuries without the aid of English Heritage.
