Article Abstract:

Sony has announced a restructuring plan which includes the closure of 15 manufacturing centers world wide, and the loss of around 17,000 jobs. Sony has tended to deliver innovative gadgets before the competition, and has been able to charge more for being the first. The company has faced domestic competition from Matsushita, and has seen sales drop in Russia, Latin America and Asia. The company aims to invest in a new network business, and in developing new microchips.
