Music firms raise stakes in bid to revive industry: campaign includes lowering CD prices, consolidation steps

The Recording Industry Association of America is launching a legal campaign that is designed to stop the piracy that has caused a drop in music sales over the last four years. The campaign involves bringing compact disc prices down. The association has filed 261 lawsuits against allegedly illegal music file-sharing.

Colgate lowers profit expectations: consumer-products firm cites heavy ad spending to fight global rivalry

Colgate-Palmolive Co. announced that its second-half profit would be lower than expected, due partly to an increase in marketing costs. The company felt it was necessary to advertise aggressively in the global market, in order to forestall a challenge to its position by its competitors, especially Proctor & Gamble.
