NSK'S 10% staff cut is seen as step in the right direction

Article Abstract:

Changes at Japanese automotive parts manufacturer NSK Ltd reflects Japanese firms' adoption of corporate restructuring techniques of US companies. NSK promised a 10% cut in its employees which is equivalent to 1,000. It also announced its plans to close one of its main plants and other downsizing measures. Security brokers and investment analysts have commended NSK's efforts. However, concerns still remain on how NSK will deal with its foreign operations.

Marsman's dominance in Philippines offers play on consumption trends

Fund managers and analysts are urging investors to buy up Marsman and Company Inc. stock. They believe that the issue remains illiquid and that the current share price is an exceptional bargain even if it has gone up by 53% since Jan. 1996. Marsman's dominant position in the Philippines serves to ensure continued earnings growth of at least 30% annually in the coming years.

Malaysia's Sunway offers a taste of East and West - and shopping

Malaysia's Sunway City leisure and entertainment complex rose from an old mining area and is advertised by its developers as the place for a shopping experience. Sunway was built with an Egyptian theme and consists of three areas, the Sunway Lagoon theme park, the soon-to-be-opened hotel complex, and the Sunway Pyramid shopping mall.
