NTT DoCoMo stands out

NTT Mobile Communications Network displayed a remarkable market performance in the early goings of 1999, acquiring a 70% earnings increase despite economic difficulties. Regarded as one of Japan's most stable blue-chip stocks, NTT's shares are valued at 6.83 million yen in the Tokyo Stock Exchange. As the country's leading mobile-phone operator, NTT Mobile further boasts of a convincing financial record since 1985. Despite these gains, analysts expressed apprehension over NTT's capacity to sustain long-term growth.

NTT braces for competition

Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corp (NTT) has successfully completed a reorganization into a holding company on Jul 8, 1999. Under its revised corporate structure, NTT becomes the owner of two local telephone service providers, Nippon Telegraph and Telephone West Corp and Nippon Telegraph and Telephone East Corp. NTT even received a bonus from the reorganization in the form of a long-distance telephone service provider, NTT Communications Corp.

The apparel retail industry in Japan is imitating the style of the Gap by having inexpensive clothing at lower prices. Retailers are using less expensive labor in China contracting work to Chinese suppliers. As limited selections and lower prices bring in more sales and revenue, retailers anticipate expansion and growth.
