Netanyahu determined in the face of obstacles

Article Abstract:

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu remains firmly committed to privatization, regarding it as essential to continuous economic growth. In 1998, the privatization programme has mainly focused on selling state holdings in the country's banking institutions. However, there have been delays to the sale of large, non-financial businesses. Leading companies currently undergoing privatization include El Al Israel Airlines, Israel Aircraft Industries and Israel Chemicals Ltd.

Uncertainty over timing of Bezeq sale

Article Abstract:

There is confusion surrounding the timing of further privatization of Bezeq of Israel, the telecoms utility. The prospectus concerning Bezeq shares was not sufficiently detailed, and there has been a delay while a new prospectus is drawn up. Cable & wireless (C&W) must also decide whether to raise its stake in Bezeq any further.
