Valentia Group is close to winning its bid for Eircom

Sir Anthony O'Reilly's Valentia consortium seems to be the victor in a 10-month battle for Eircom PLC, the Irish phone company. The consortium e-Island was still deciding on a course of action after Eircom's board accepted an increased offer of roughly Euro3 billion from Valantia.

A reborn AT&T to buy BellSouth

AT&T Inc. of the United States is to purchase BellSouth Corp. also of the United States, assuming $22 billion in debt. The acquisition will make AT&T Corp. the largest telecommunications operator in the world, with a market capitalization of approximately $170 billion.
